The doorway to quarantine
GoDesign has been in the ID business for over 40 years.
As you can probably imagine, we have encountered our share of challenging and untypical projects.
But no matter what the requirements, we will always do our best to not just meet…but exceed the expectations of our clients.
Case-in-point: We recently handled a 4-bedroom apartment project…with a twist.
The apartment was a recent purchase from our client. We were tasked with refurbishing it according to his specifications.
Sounds simple enough, yes?
We thought so too. Until the client discovered soon after engaging us, that his grandson had a rare disease requiring surgery and subsequent quarantine.
After a period of consideration, he decided to use the apartment as a quarantine zone for his grandson. In addition to a home for the rest of the family.
From a simple residential project, to an advanced request that required plenty of experience and expertise pull off.
Most ID firms would have turned this down. Especially since the project specs changed after the initial agreement.
However, we were determined to give the client exactly what he wanted.
After all, we are one of the few ID firms who are technically proficient enough to make this work. If not us, then who else?
How We Transformed A 4-Bedroom Apartment Into A “2-In-1” Quarantine/Residential Haven

A customized tempered glass separator to allow the family to see their grandson during meals
Thankfully, the apartment layout was in our favour. It allowed us to segregate it into 2 separate units.
That wasn’t the hard part.
The challenging aspect was the limited time (5 days) to finish the segregation before the grandson returned home for quarantine.
Additionally, my client (and the rest of his family) wanted to see his grandson everyday, while still adhering to the conditions of quarantine.
In summary, this was the solution we had to implement within this 5-day window:
- Set up new walls with tempered glass between the kitchen and quarantine area, so that the rest of the family can see the grandson during meals, without coming into physical contact.
- A new coat of paint for the entire house.
- New bathroom fittings.
- Extensive electrical work
- Installation of new window grilles.
- Layout of all furniture around the house.
- Deep sanitization to meet quarantine standards.
I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the scope of work involved.
In such cases, the above deliverables usually take a lot longer than 5 days to complete.
Honestly, I wasn’t 100% sure that we could pull it off.
But like I mentioned above, if not us, then who else?
We Had 5 Days To Complete This Project…Guess How Long We Took?

All cleaned up for moving in!
On Day 1 of work, it was like a war zone. Multiple trades working con-currently in a tight space.
Not my preferred style. But due to the tight timeline, we had no choice but to multi-task.
Of course, my team and I were there to ensure order within the chaos.
It was not easy, because it was not our usual way of working.
Thankfully, when the whole team is committed to a unified goal, we’ll find a way to make it work.
After some confusion at the start, we got into a nice, fast-paced groove. Everyone cooperated. Everyone was in tandem.
It was like a well-drilled orchestra!
It turned out that we did not even need 5 days. We got everything done in just 4!
That allowed us to focus on more thorough cleaning and sanitization of the area, ensuring that the grandson had the best possible quarantine space to recover.
